Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about odds and betting math
What is implied probability in betting?
Implied probability is the win percentage embedded in betting odds. Formula: Implied Probability = 1 ÷ Decimal Odds × 100%. For example, decimal odds of 2.50 imply 40% probability. Sportsbooks add a margin (vig) so the sum of all implied probabilities exceeds 100%.
How do I convert American odds to Decimal?
For positive American odds (e.g. +150): Decimal = (American ÷ 100) + 1 = 2.50. For negative odds (e.g. -200): Decimal = (100 ÷ |American|) + 1 = 1.50. Use the Odds Converter above for instant results across all formats.
What is a parlay bet?
A parlay combines multiple bets into one — all legs must win. Combined decimal odds = multiply all individual odds. Example: 1.85 × 2.10 × 1.70 = 6.60. With a $100 stake, total payout = $660. Higher reward, but each leg reduces your win probability significantly.
How does hedge betting work?
Hedging means placing a bet on the opposite outcome of an existing bet to guarantee profit or reduce risk. If you have a futures bet at long odds that's now looking likely, you bet the other side to lock in guaranteed profit regardless of result.
Which odds format should I use?
It depends on your region. American odds (+/-) are standard in the US. Decimal odds (e.g. 2.50) are used in Europe, Australia, Canada. Fractional odds (e.g. 5/2) are traditional in the UK. Malay, Indonesian, and Hong Kong formats are common in Asian markets.
